Nigerian Army rescues abducted senior officer in Delta

Troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully rescued Major M.D. Josiah, a senior officer abducted by gunmen in Bomadi, Delta State, on September 8, 2025.

According Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, the operation, carried out on September 9 at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area, followed extensive intelligence gathering and close collaboration with local community leaders. This synergy, according to the Army, was crucial in locating the abductors and securing the officer’s release.

He said during the operation, Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds but was swiftly evacuated to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.

Commander, 63 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, praised the troops for their courage and tactical efficiency. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across Delta State and the wider region.

General Shonibare also commended Bomadi communities for their support, describing their cooperation as a demonstration of the growing partnership between the Nigerian Army and local residents in tackling insecurity.

The Army emphasized that the successful rescue reflects its readiness and capability to respond decisively to emerging security threats in the Niger Delta and beyond.
