CAS urges fiscal discipline to strengthen national security

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed that fiscal discipline and accountability are vital to sustaining Nigeria’s national security and operational readiness.

Speaking at the 2025 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Finance Conference and Retreat held at the NAF School of Finance and Accounts (NAFSFA), Ajia-Ibadan, Abubakar stressed that prudent resource management is essential for training, readiness, and executing directives without financial constraints. He commended the Accounts and Budget Branch for convening the retreat themed “Sustainable Resource Management for Effective Air Power Delivery.”

Delivering a keynote address, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, represented by Dr. Samuel Omenka, emphasised transparency, accountability, and efficient budgeting as cornerstones for sustaining airpower and maximising limited resources.

The CAS highlighted the establishment of NAFSFA earlier this year as a professional training hub for finance officers and a national resource centre. He also praised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for approving the dualisation of the access road to the NAF Base in Ajia, describing it as a symbol of enduring partnership.

Chief of Accounts and Budget, Air Vice Marshal Uche Nwagwu, further underscored the duty of finance officers in safeguarding NAF’s credibility by ensuring funds translate directly into operational capability.

Dignitaries at the event included Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubumi Oni, and Accountant General, Mrs. Kike Adegoke, among other senior officials. The event also featured the commissioning of the NAF Finance Specialty Hall of Fame and expert-led sessions on financial stewardship.
