Nigeria has formally endorsed the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) introduced by Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing it as a framework that promotes fairness, inclusivity, and shared progress in the international system.
The endorsement was conveyed in Abuja by the Director-General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Mr. Joseph Tegbe, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government.
Tegbe said the vision of the GGI aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic revitalisation, social inclusion, and global engagement. He stressed that the initiative’s principles of sovereign equality, multilateralism, and respect for international law resonate with Nigeria’s foreign policy.
He highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding advocacy for permanent African representation on the UN Security Council, its peacekeeping contributions, and its role in promoting regional stability through ECOWAS and the African Union.
According to him, the initiative also presents practical opportunities for cooperation, especially in infrastructure, energy, industrial growth, and digital innovation. He noted that Nigeria’s broadband expansion, fintech drive, and youth empowerment agenda stand to benefit from deeper collaboration under the GGI.
“The Global Governance Initiative is more than a vision; it is a call to action. Nigeria stands ready to work with China and other partners to translate this initiative into tangible progress for our citizens, for Africa, and for the world,” Tegbe said.
