BUK students praise Senator Barau as 1,052 benefit from scholarship scheme

Students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) have lauded the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, for awarding scholarships to 1,052 undergraduates from the 13 local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District.

The scholarship programme, launched on Tuesday at the BUK Convocation Arena, provides each beneficiary with N50,000 to support their studies across various academic fields.

The initiative comes a day after 1,000 students matriculated at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, under a similar scholarship scheme funded by Senator Barau.

A beneficiary, Rukayya Yusuf Adam, a 400-level student, expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that it was not the first time students had benefited from the senator’s educational interventions. “He has been supporting us consistently every year,” she said.

The President of Kano North Students, BUK Chapter, Comrade Lawal Salisu Gwarzo, described Barau as “the father of Nigerian students” and nicknamed him “Mr. Education” in recognition of his numerous interventions.

Represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, Senator Barau said the scholarship reflects his commitment to education and youth empowerment. His media aide, Ismail Mudashir, added that the scheme will be extended to all Kano North students in tertiary institutions nationwide.

Recent interventions by Senator Barau include sponsorship of 70 postgraduate students abroad, scholarships for 1,000 undergraduates at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, and support for 300 doctoral students in Nigeria.

The senator urged beneficiaries to use the opportunity wisely and excel in their academic pursuits.
