IGP Egbetokun commissions 59 armoured vehicles to bolster police operations

The Nigeria Police Force has strengthened its operational capacity with the commissioning of 59 Armoured Toyota Hilux Vehicles by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Friday, September 26, 2025.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the vehicles, purpose-built to withstand hostile fire, endure difficult terrains, and provide speed, durability, and protection, are intended to give tactical and special units a decisive edge in high-risk operations.

He confirmed that the vehicles would be immediately deployed to tactical units across the country.

Speaking at the commissioning, IGP Egbetokun said the development marked a significant step in the Force’s broader security framework, aimed at enhancing field operations, intelligence gathering, and accountability. He stressed that the credibility of the Police must be earned through results, particularly at a time when insecurity across Nigeria and the African continent is becoming increasingly complex.

“These vehicles are not for ceremonial display but strategic reinforcements. They must never be left idle while citizens face danger. Every deployment must be lawful, proportionate, and decisive,” the IGP said, warning that criminal elements would no longer find safe havens in any part of the country.

He further assured Nigerians that the commissioning would, in due time, translate into a decline in crime rates and increased public confidence in the Police.
