The United States has congratulated Nigeria on the occasion of its 65th Independence anniversary, pledging continued support for the country’s progress while reaffirming the strength of diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between both nations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, extended warm greetings on behalf of the American people to Nigeria, describing the country as a “beacon of resilience and leadership” over the past six decades.
“The United States values our enduring partnership, rooted in shared democratic principles, a growing commercial relationship, and a commitment to fostering peace and security,” Rubio said.
He commended Nigeria’s cultural diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, and the determination of its people, noting that these qualities have not only shaped the nation’s development but also contributed to regional stability and global progress.
Rubio emphasized the importance of Nigeria as a strategic partner in Africa, particularly in addressing challenges such as terrorism, insecurity, climate change, and economic diversification. He assured that the U.S. remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s democratic institutions, advancing trade and investment, and strengthening collaboration in health, education, and technology.
“On this special occasion, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit, and unwavering determination of the Nigerian people. We look forward to continuing to deepen our collaboration in the years ahead as we work together to achieve our shared goals,” he added.
The Secretary of State concluded by wishing Nigeria a future of peace, progress, and prosperity, expressing optimism that the longstanding U.S.-Nigeria relationship would continue to flourish in the decades ahead.
