The Nigeria Police Force has secured the conviction of fifty-nine (59) additional foreign nationals involved in a high-profile international cybercrime syndicate, marking another major milestone in its ongoing war against cybercrime.
According to statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the convictions, obtained through the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), follow months of intensive investigation and prosecution stemming from a major cyber operation carried out in Jahi, Abuja, in November 2024.
Acting on actionable intelligence, police operatives had stormed a building in Jahi, arresting 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals of Chinese and Malaysian origin and 17 Nigerians. The syndicate was allegedly involved in large-scale internet fraud, sophisticated hacking operations, and other activities capable of undermining national cybersecurity.
According to police reports, 21 suspects were earlier convicted and sentenced on August 1, 2025, while another five were convicted in September 2025. With the latest round of 59 convictions, the total number of successfully prosecuted individuals now stands at 85, with prosecution of the remaining suspects still ongoing.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, hailed the convictions as a significant victory in Nigeria’s broader campaign against cybercrime. He reiterated the Police Force’s zero-tolerance stance on digital crimes and its determination to ensure that Nigeria does not become a safe haven for cybercriminal networks.
“These convictions send a strong and clear message to both local and international cybercriminals that Nigeria will not tolerate any form of digital criminal enterprise,” the IGP said.
Egbetokun also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology, strengthening international partnerships, and maintaining rigorous investigative and prosecutorial standards to dismantle organized cybercrime groups operating within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
