The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted claims circulating in some media outlets regarding the status of two individuals, Matthew Nwakeme and Solomon Okwundu, clarifying that the reports are false and misleading.
According to an official statement, both individuals were remanded at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Owerri, as awaiting trial inmates based on a warrant issued after they were charged before the Owerri Magistrate Court on April 10, 2025, for robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
The Service explained that the duo was released on bail on July 1, 2025, following the fulfillment of their bail conditions, in line with a court order.
The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, MFR, mni, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, transparency, and due process in the administration of criminal justice.
The NCoS urged members of the public to disregard the fake video report, describing it as “inaccurate and misleading.”
