UN women, Warri kingdom forge partnership for inclusive development

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) has deepened its collaboration with the Warri Kingdom to advance gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive community development.

The UN Women Nigeria Representative, Ms. Beatrice Eyong, was hosted in Warri by the Royal Iwere Foundation under the gracious leadership of Their Majesties, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom, and Olori Atuwatse III.

The high-level engagement focused on strengthening partnerships that promote women’s economic inclusion, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership. According to a statement on Tuesday, discussions centered on expanding existing initiatives within the Kingdom that empower women and girls, while exploring new areas for sustainable collaboration.

“Traditional institutions are powerful drivers of social transformation,” Ms. Eyong stated. “UN Women is committed to working closely with Their Majesties and the Royal Iwere Foundation to amplify the remarkable efforts already underway in Warri Kingdom and ensure that no woman or girl is left behind.”

Their Majesties reaffirmed their dedication to partnerships that promote gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and community resilience, noting that the Kingdom’s development vision aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The visit underscores UN Women’s commitment to building strong local partnerships that translate global goals into local impact, ensuring that women’s leadership, voices, and economic participation remain at the heart of sustainable development in Nigeria.
