The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has lauded the progress made in infrastructural development within Port Harcourt Barracks.
According to Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 6 Division, Nigerian Army Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, speaking on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, during the commissioning of newly completed projects, Major General Emekah commended the Commanding Officer of 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Irinam Otogo, for aligning with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s Soldiers-First mantra. The initiative, he said, led to the complete remodelling and renovation of a block of ten flats at the Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQ), aimed at enhancing the comfort and welfare of soldiers and their families.

The GOC emphasized that several projects had been completed under his command, while others were still ongoing, reaffirming his commitment to timely project delivery—particularly those improving soldiers’ accommodation. He urged beneficiaries to adopt a maintenance culture, noting that the Nigerian Army had fulfilled its part.
In addition, Major General Emekah commissioned a remodelled, solar-powered Python Roundabout, designed to enhance illumination and aesthetics within the barracks. The project, also executed by 29 Battalion, was described as durable and symbolic of the Division’s commitment to excellence.
Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Otogo explained that the remodelling of the Python Roundabout was inspired by the GOC’s drive for environmental improvement and modernization across formations under 6 Division. He noted that the upgraded structure features solar lighting, clear markings, and directional signage to ensure safety and visibility, even under poor weather conditions.
He further stated that the renovation of the CBQ was aimed at boosting the morale, comfort, and operational readiness of troops, reflecting the leadership’s dedication to quality infrastructure and the welfare of personnel.
