Troops repel multiple terrorist attacks in Borno, Yobe

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have repelled multiple coordinated attacks by terrorists across several locations in Borno and Yobe States, killing over 50 insurgents and recovering a cache of weapons.

Confirming the report, Media Information Officer Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI Lieut. Col. Sani Uba said the attacks, which occurred between midnight and 4:00 a.m., targeted military positions in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko — areas under Sectors 1 and 2 of the Joint Operations Area. According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops fought gallantly and professionally, repelling all the assaults and inflicting heavy losses on the attackers.

Air support from the Air Component Command played a decisive role in the engagements, delivering precision strikes guided by intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) assets. This combined effort, the statement said, gave troops “overwhelming and lethal advantage” on the battlefield.

Recovered items include 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of assorted ammunition. Ground forces are also pursuing about 70 wounded terrorists fleeing the battle zones, supported by continuous air surveillance.

Intelligence reports indicated that the groups attacking Dikwa and Gajibo advanced from the Cameroon axis, while those who struck Katarko originated from the notorious Timbuktu Triangle.

Some soldiers sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. Minor damage to vehicles and infrastructure was also recorded, particularly in Mafa and Dikwa, following drone and RPG fire from the terrorists.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery and resilience, reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity. The statement added that the introduction of more personnel and combat assets has strengthened ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North East.
