Armed forces reaffirm unity as new defence minister takes charge

The leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces on Thursday held a high-level meeting in Abuja to formally receive the newly appointed Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (OFR), signalling renewed commitment to strengthened joint operations across the nation.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, joined the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, and other Service Chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters for the strategic session, which comes at a time of evolving security challenges.

Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s central role in enhancing integrated operations, noting that the service’s surveillance, precision-strike and rapid-response capabilities remain vital to counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and internal security efforts.

The meeting, beyond welcoming the new minister, underscored a renewed push for operational synergy, with the Armed Forces pledging to deepen coordination of air, land and maritime assets informed by timely and actionable intelligence.
