NAF pilots hailed for safe ejection after Kainji jet emergency

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commended the courage and professionalism of two Alpha Jet pilots who safely ejected after their aircraft developed an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection test flight at Air Force Base Kainji on Saturday, 6 December 2025.

According to a statement by NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the emergency occurred shortly after take-off. The pilots quickly assessed the situation, skilfully steering the aircraft away from populated areas before ejecting safely. Both officers are currently undergoing routine medical evaluation.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the pilots for their “courage, discipline and sound judgement,” noting that their actions averted potential loss of life.

He has ordered the immediate formation of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the incident.

The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to strict safety protocols and operational excellence, stressing that it remains dedicated to protecting its personnel and safeguarding citizens in line with its constitutional mandate.
