Nigeria and India have taken another decisive step in strengthening their long-standing defence partnership as the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on 9 December 2025 at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement, Acting Director, Army Public Relations Colonel Appolonia Anele said during the meeting, Colonel Singh commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained operations against security threats across the country and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to broadening defence cooperation, particularly through expanded training opportunities and enhanced technical exchanges in key military sectors.
In his response, Lieutenant General Shaibu underscored the value of Nigeria’s enduring defence relationship with India, describing the Asian nation’s contributions to military training, capacity development and defence technology support as critical to the Nigerian Army’s progress. He emphasized the need to deepen collaboration in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, equipment support, and professional military education to address evolving security challenges.
The visit also featured the exchange of souvenirs symbolising friendship and sustained cooperation, along with the signing of the visitors’ register and a group photograph.
