The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has warned against vandalism of critical national assets as residents prepare for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, gave the assurance of a peaceful festive season while cautioning criminals to steer clear of essential infrastructure or face severe consequences.
Odumosu noted that the yuletide period often witnesses heightened criminal activity, but said the command has intensified security measures to guarantee public safety. He revealed that undercover operatives and special squads are conducting round-the-clock surveillance and patrols across the city’s vulnerable areas to deter criminal elements.
He urged residents, especially commuters, to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to “one chance” syndicates, advising them to board vehicles only from designated motor parks and patronize verified transport companies.
Condemning the rising cases of kidnapping in the territory, Odumosu encouraged the public to take proactive safety measures, avoid travelling at night, stay away from isolated locations, and keep family members informed of their movements.
He further warned individuals with criminal intentions in the FCT to either desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law, stressing that NSCDC personnel remain committed to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
Residents were also asked to report suspicious activities—such as tampering with electric cables, transformers, pipelines, telecommunication masts, manholes, and crash barriers—to the nearest NSCDC office or via the command’s hotlines: 09166229882 and 08159066244.
Odumosu emphasized that vandalism of crash barriers will not be tolerated, cautioning drivers to take greater care on the roads and warning scavengers to avoid removing or damaging the protective structures.
