KACRAN to Defence Minister: Prioritise non-kinetic strategy to restore security

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has urged the newly appointed Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), to justify the high national confidence placed in him by adopting strategic, non-kinetic measures to address Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.

In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, the association noted that General Musa enjoys rare nationwide acceptance, but warned that this goodwill comes with immense expectations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the public.

KACRAN said Nigeria is currently grappling with “perhaps the most serious security challenges in its history,” citing escalating incidents of kidnappings, school abductions, destruction of farmlands, cattle rustling, attacks on worship centres, and killings of innocent citizens.

The group stated that General Musa’s distinguished record in military operations—from Liberia to the North East and most recently as Chief of Defence Staff—has fuelled public anticipation that he can deliver rapid improvements.

According to the association, the minister has a “very limited timeframe” to produce tangible results, given that political activities will heighten ahead of the 2027 general elections. It added that the security situation in the next year could significantly influence the political fortunes of President Tinubu and several governors seeking re-election.

KACRAN cautioned that failure to improve national security could expose the administration to a backlash similar to what former President Goodluck Jonathan experienced in 2015. It said General Musa is widely expected to “achieve six years’ worth of progress in one year.”

While expressing confidence in the minister’s capabilities, the association urged him to embrace a balanced security architecture that incorporates non-kinetic solutions. It recommended comprehensive threat mapping, hybrid response models that combine dialogue with limited force where necessary, and open-door engagement to encourage citizens and stakeholders to share intelligence.

KACRAN appealed to Nigerians—including traditional rulers, political leaders, and security agencies—to support the minister with cooperation and timely information, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.

The association reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Defence Ministry and called on General Musa to consider its proposals for resolving insecurity in the North West and North Central within three to six months using minimal military force.
