PDP BoT declares new era of unity, calls for reconciliation

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the party has entered a “new era of unity,” signalling an end to prolonged internal divisions and a renewed focus on reconciliation and stability.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretariat, Abuja.

At a BoT meeting, the Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, described the moment as critical for the party’s future and urged members and supporters to rally behind the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) to consolidate unity across the party.

Senator Wabara congratulated the party on the successful conduct of its National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, describing the exercise as a clear demonstration of the PDP’s enduring commitment to internal democracy and transparency.

On behalf of the BoT, he formally declared the Board’s full and unreserved support for the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led NWC, noting that early indications showed the party was being repositioned nationwide.

“From the early days of their tenure, it appears that our party is being repositioned, structures are being strengthened, and confidence is being restored across the federation. These are giant strides that give hope not just to party members, but to millions of Nigerians who look to the PDP as a credible alternative to the current state of affairs,” Wabara said.

While acknowledging the progress recorded by the new leadership, the BoT Chairman stressed that unity and reconciliation must remain paramount, describing the present period as one that calls for healing and collective purpose.

In his response, the PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, speaking on behalf of the NWC, expressed gratitude to the BoT for its support and for its participation in the Ibadan convention.

Turaki acknowledged the party’s recent challenges but emphasized that the new leadership was determined to prioritise peace and reconciliation. “We have had a lot of ups and downs. We fought ourselves and we fought each other. Other people fought us from within and from without. Now, it is time for peace,” he said, adding that reconciliation would be a cardinal principle of the NWC’s leadership.

He called on all party members, support groups and stakeholders to embrace the new direction and work collectively towards the stability and progress of the PDP.

“We believe that there is no dispute, no disagreement, and no misunderstanding that is irreconcilable, provided there is a common objective and common will,” Turaki stated.

The meeting was attended by prominent BoT members, including former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana; former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi; and former Governor of Enugu State, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, among others.
