The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, on Thursday visited Kilometre Zero of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project, commending the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and its partners for the pace of work on the strategic infrastructure.

The Minister was accompanied on the tour by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and the Company’s Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye.

Ekpo described the AKK Pipeline as a transformative national asset, noting that upon completion it would unlock significant economic opportunities, strengthen power supply, and accelerate industrialisation across the country. He said the project is expected to usher in a new era of energy sufficiency and economic security for Nigeria.

In his remarks, Engr. Ojulari underscored the project’s importance to Nigeria’s development trajectory, linking it to the nation’s industrial heritage while projecting a revival anchored on natural gas as a transition fuel. He noted that the AKK Pipeline represents a critical pathway for leveraging Nigeria’s vast gas resources to drive sustainable growth.

The visit, according to officials, further reaffirms the Federal Government’s and NNPC Limited’s commitment to the timely delivery of the AKK Gas Pipeline, a project widely regarded as having strategic national significance.
