Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate employment of 81 outstanding graduates of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), most of whom earned first-class and second-class upper degrees.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the university’s maiden combined convocation ceremony, which attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Governor Zulum, who is the Visitor to the university, described the decision as a deliberate investment in human capital development and the future of tertiary education in Borno State. He disclosed that the beneficiaries were drawn from the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 graduating classes.
“I have approved the recruitment of all the 81 best graduating students of the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 graduating classes as lecturers of this university, effective January 1, 2026. In addition to their automatic employment, they will be sponsored for postgraduate studies both within and outside Nigeria,” the governor said.
The convocation also featured a major intervention from the Office of the Vice President, as Senator Kashim Shettima announced the donation of two electric buses to the university to support campus transportation.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni; the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya; and a representative of the Governor of Kebbi State. Prominent businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, whose foundation has supported educational initiatives across the country, was also in attendance.
The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, led a delegation of traditional rulers from various states to the ceremony.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of KIU, Professor Babagana Gutti, expressed appreciation to the state government, institutional partners and stakeholders for their contributions to the growth of the university and the successful hosting of its maiden combined convocation.
