Zulum pledges security push, project completion in Borno

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing lingering security challenges and completing ongoing developmental projects across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The governor made the pledge on Thursday during the first regular State Executive Council meeting of 2026, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Zulum described 2026 as a year of consolidation for his administration. He noted that although relative peace has returned to several parts of the state, efforts to strengthen security operations would be sustained to ensure stability in all communities.

In addition to security interventions, the governor said the state government would intensify efforts toward the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) through medium- and long-term durable solutions aimed at restoring livelihoods and rebuilding affected communities.

Zulum also highlighted plans to expand the state’s social protection framework, stressing that social security would remain central to the government’s rebuilding agenda. He underscored the need to complement infrastructure development with targeted social welfare initiatives to support vulnerable populations.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe; and other members of the State Executive Council.
