Troops kill insurgent Leaders, repel coordinated terrorist attacks in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, the Joint Task Force of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the North-East, have repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on several military locations in Borno State, killing several insurgent commanders during the clashes.

The attacks, which occurred between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., targeted troops’ positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the task force, Sani Uba, the troops successfully resisted the assaults and maintained control of their defensive positions despite the intensity of the attacks.

According to the statement, the troops mounted a coordinated response, executing flanking manoeuvres with reinforcement teams drawn from Sectors 1 and 2, which forced the attackers into disorganised retreats.

“In some isolated cases where sections of the defensive perimeter were briefly breached, troops swiftly counter-attacked and fully regained control of their positions,” the statement said.

During the engagements, several insurgent leaders, including key “Amirs,” were neutralised, while a number of fighters were killed in the counter-offensive. Although some structures within the affected military locations were damaged during the firefights, all bases remain under the control of the troops.

The operation was supported by the Air Component, which carried out precision air strikes overnight against fleeing terrorist elements and identified hostile positions. The strikes reportedly eliminated additional insurgents and further weakened their operational capability.

Ground troops are currently conducting follow-up operations across the affected areas, including the recovery of weapons, equipment, and the bodies of insurgents.

However, the military confirmed that some soldiers were killed during the clashes, including a senior officer who died while leading his troops in the battle.

The statement described the attacks as a sign of the increasing desperation of terrorist groups under sustained military pressure across the theatre of operations, adding that Operation Hadin Kai remains firmly in control of the battlespace.
