Troops arrest suspected militia member in Benue

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have arrested a suspected high-profile criminal during an intelligence-led operation in Agasha Village following a reported attack on a resident.

In a statement Acting Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant  Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu said the operation was launched on March 13, 2026, after security agencies received credible information that a local resident, Mr. Shaapera Seeta Michael, had been attacked in the community.

Acting swiftly on the report, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XI deployed under Operation WHIRL STROKE mobilised to the area to track down the suspect linked to the assault.

On arrival, the troops cordoned off the community to prevent the suspect from escaping and carried out a targeted search operation. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Suurnen David Akum from Agasha Village in Guma Local Government Area, was subsequently apprehended.

During the arrest, troops also recovered a locally fabricated rifle believed to have been in the suspect’s possession. Military authorities said the suspect is currently under investigation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

The Force Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and tactical conduct which led to the successful arrest.

He urged personnel to sustain the operational tempo and remain vigilant in ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of operation within the area.
