Troops repel ISWAP infiltration attempt in Bitta

Troops of the Operation HADIN KAI under the Joint Task Force (North East) have repelled an attempted infiltration by terrorists at Bitta in Sector 1, dealing what military authorities described as another significant blow to fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

In a statement Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI Lieut Col. Sani Uba said the attack occurred when ISWAP fighters attempted to infiltrate the troops’ position in Bitta in an effort to regain momentum following recent operational setbacks in the theatre.

However, vigilant troops had anticipated the move and prepared a coordinated offensive-defensive response. As the insurgents advanced toward the military position, the troops launched carefully coordinated spoiling operations that disrupted the attackers’ formation while manoeuvring to cut off their withdrawal routes.

Faced with what officials described as overwhelming resistance and superior firepower, the terrorists reportedly retreated in disarray after suffering significant losses.

Military authorities noted that the failed infiltration represents the third major setback inflicted on the insurgents within 24 hours, following earlier unsuccessful attacks in Banki and at Azir Bridge.

The development underscores the sustained operational pressure being mounted by troops of Operation HADIN KAI across the North-East theatre, which military sources say has significantly constrained the insurgents’ freedom of movement and limited their operational capabilities.

Troops are said to remain firmly in control of all operational locations and continue to dominate the environment through sustained offensive operations, high morale and coordinated tactical manoeuvres.

The military high command commended the troops for their courage and resilience, urging them to maintain the current operational momentum.
