Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Directorate, have clarified that a recent enforcement operation in Ilorin, Kwara State, is not connected to the student protest at Kwara State Polytechnic.
According to the Commission, the operation—conducted on Wednesday, March 24, 2026—targeted two buildings in the Agbede community of Ilorin over suspected internet-related fraud activities. The raid resulted in the arrest of 30 suspects, including six individuals identified as students of the Polytechnic. Preliminary profiling indicated that the six students were actively involved in the alleged fraudulent activities.
The EFCC disclosed that eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered during the operation, alongside several mobile phones and laptop computers.
The Commission emphasized that the operation was strictly confined to the identified locations and did not involve any incursion into the Polytechnic’s परिसर, nor did it disrupt academic activities. It described attempts to link the enforcement action to the student protest as “untenable,” adding that videos circulating online suggesting such a connection are “contrived and a misrepresentation of facts.”
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and integrity, the EFCC stated that all channels for reporting misconduct by its personnel remain open to the public. The agency further pledged to continue carrying out its mandate in the broader interest of Nigerians.
