Troops nab suspects, recover rifle in pre-planting offensive

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have apprehended three suspected criminals and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with ammunition during ongoing pre-wet season clearance operations.

In a statement, Acting Media Information Officer HQ JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu said the operation, conducted on March 26, 2026, by troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI, followed credible intelligence on the presence of suspected terrorists in the Agasha general area.

He said acting swiftly, the troops advanced tactically to the location and cordoned off the area, resulting in the arrest of three suspects identified as Sule Ibrahim and Salmanu Risko, both from Nasarawa State, and Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos.

Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 27 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, 10 sachets of alcohol, and assorted charms.

Military authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation, after which they will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

Operation WHIRL STROKE said troops remain on an aggressive operational footing, sustaining clearance and area domination efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and ensure improved security ahead of the farming season.

The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, reaffirming the commitment of the Joint Task Force to safeguarding law-abiding citizens across the operational area.
