Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 civilians abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The operation followed a distress call reporting that worshippers had been taken hostage during a service at an ECWA Church in the community. Upon receiving the alert, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and, with support from local residents, pursued the fleeing attackers.
According to military sources, the troops engaged the assailants in a gun battle, overpowering them with superior firepower. The sustained pressure forced the attackers to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical treatment.
However, five victims were confirmed dead, with their remains recovered at the scene. Security officials indicated that the attackers likely suffered significant casualties, citing blood trails along their escape routes.
Troops have since intensified pursuit operations to track down the fleeing suspects, with ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing any remaining captives and bringing those responsible to justice.
Additional personnel have been deployed to the area to reinforce security, strengthen operational presence, and prevent further attacks on communities in the region.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and protecting the country’s territorial integrity, in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.
Residents have also been urged to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information, emphasising the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace and stability.
