The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s determination to overcome prevailing security threats across the country, following a battlefield assessment visit to the North-East.
During the operational visit to Yobe State on Friday, the COAS said the Army remains resolute in defeating terrorism and other security challenges, with sustained support from citizens and subnational authorities. He was received in Damaturu by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport.
The visit, according to the Army Chief, was aimed at boosting troop morale and evaluating the current security situation in the region.
Lieutenant General Shaibu acknowledged recent operational setbacks, including attacks on military positions, but maintained that the Army remains undeterred in executing its constitutional mandate. He disclosed that ongoing adjustments in operational strategies are being implemented to counter emerging threats and consolidate gains recorded across various theatres of operation.
Despite the evolving nature of security challenges nationwide, he assured that the Army would continue to adapt its tactics and maintain a firm stance against terrorism. He also called on state governments to strengthen support for troops engaged in frontline duties.
The COAS commended the government and people of Yobe State for their cooperation, noting that such support is critical to achieving lasting peace and stability.
At the Headquarters, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI in Damaturu, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, accompanied by Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the Army leadership over personnel losses recorded in recent engagements with terrorists. Governor Zulum pledged enhanced collaboration and additional strategies to support security agencies in addressing the dynamic threat environment.
The Army Chief also addressed troops in the sector, urging them to remain resolute, aggressive, and committed in ongoing operations, in honour of fallen personnel and in pursuit of enduring peace.
In his remarks, the Yobe State Deputy Governor, who represented the governor, commended the Nigerian Army’s role in restoring stability in conflict-affected areas, highlighting its resilience and continued operational successes despite mounting challenges. He also offered prayers for fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
