The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on April 17, 2026, convened an emergency security meeting with Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders at the Command Headquarters in Garki II, Abuja.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh said the meeting, which began at about 2:30 p.m., focused on strengthening ongoing security operations, improving professionalism, and consolidating recent gains in crime reduction across the FCT.
In his opening remarks, the CP commended officers for their dedication, noting that crime levels within the territory have remained relatively low in recent months. He, however, urged continued vigilance, stressing the need for proactive and responsive policing across all areas of responsibility.
Sanusi reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on strict adherence to professional standards. He issued a strong warning against extortion, harassment of members of the public, and other forms of misconduct, emphasising that such actions would attract disciplinary measures.
Area Commanders were directed to communicate these directives to Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and their subordinates, with a clear notice that supervisory officers would be held accountable for any misconduct within their commands.
As part of efforts to enforce discipline, the CP mandated the X-Squad to intensify surveillance and enforcement against unprofessional behaviour within the Command, warning that any erring officer would be promptly arrested and subjected to appropriate sanctions.
In addition, Sanusi announced the restructuring of tactical operations within the Command. In line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, all Tactical Teams have been dissolved and consolidated into a single unit, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which will handle responses to violent crimes across the FCT.
The CP also called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security. He cautioned against provoking confrontations with officers for the purpose of recording and circulating such incidents, noting that police personnel remain committed to the protection of lives and property.
Residents were further encouraged to report suspicious activities promptly, as public cooperation remains essential to effective policing.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace and ensuring the safety of all residents through proactive security measures.
