The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has uncovered a suspected human trafficking syndicate involving foreign nationals operating in Keffi and Karu Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State.
The agency disclosed that the discovery followed a joint operation conducted on May 7, 2026, by officers of its Investigation Department and the Intelligence and International Cooperation Unit (IICU), based on credible intelligence concerning suspicious activities linked to fraudulent online marketing operations.
According to preliminary findings, 15 persons were discovered at the location, including four female victims and 11 male victims. Among the male victims, three were identified as Nigerians, while the others were foreign nationals.
NAPTIP said the suspects allegedly operated under the cover of an online marketing company to recruit and harbor unsuspecting persons in conditions believed to be connected to human trafficking, cyber-related exploitation and other forms of organized criminal activities.
The agency described the development as a serious security and humanitarian concern, citing the deceptive recruitment methods allegedly employed by the traffickers and the vulnerability of victims to exploitation.
NAPTIP said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and apprehend other collaborators connected to the operation.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking and urged members of the public to report suspicious recruitment activities and unusual movements within their communities to relevant authorities.
