Court orders final forfeiture of N1.9bn assets linked to ex-acting AGF

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered the final forfeiture of assets valued at over N1.9 billion linked to former Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku, to the Federal Government.

The forfeited assets include shares worth N1.94 billion, funds amounting to N288.59 million and a five-bedroom duplex located at No. 20 City Gate Estate, Kukwaba, Abuja.

The order followed Nwabuoku’s conviction and sentencing on March 23, 2026 on a nine-count charge bordering on money laundering and abuse of office.

Following the conviction, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through a Motion on Notice dated April 1, 2026, applied for the confiscation and forfeiture of all assets listed in Schedules 1, 2 and 3 of the application.

Schedule 1 comprised funds traced to accounts linked to Temeeo Synergy Concept Limited, Turge Global Investment Limited, Laptev Bridge Limited and Arrafura Transnational Afro Ltd, as well as the sum of N220 million earlier refunded by Nwabuoku into the EFCC Recovery Account domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria. The total amount forfeited under the schedule stood at N288,590,749.

Schedule 2 covered the five-bedroom duplex situated at No. 20 City Gate Estate, Kukwaba, Abuja.

Schedule 3 contained stocks acquired by the convict in various security companies, valued at N1,941,805,342 as of March 29, 2026.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Omotosho held that the court was satisfied that the funds, property and shares constituted proceeds of unlawful activities, having regard to the earlier judgment delivered on March 23, 2026.

The judge consequently ordered the final forfeiture of all the listed assets to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
