Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Borno State, killing several insurgents and maintaining control of the military position despite challenging weather conditions.
The attack occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Friday when terrorists launched an assault on the base, taking advantage of heavy rainfall and poor visibility in an attempt to breach the facility.
According to military authorities, troops of FOB Mandaragirau, under the 25 Brigade of Sector 2, mounted a determined counter-offensive that halted the attackers’ advance and inflicted significant losses on the insurgents.
The military said the successful defence of the base demonstrated the resilience, courage and combat effectiveness of troops operating across the North-East theatre.
However, the operation came at a cost, with five soldiers losing their lives during the fierce firefight and close-quarter combat. Three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) also died while supporting the troops in the defence of the base.
Several personnel sustained injuries during the engagement and were promptly airlifted by the Air Component Command for medical treatment. Military authorities disclosed that the wounded are in stable condition and receiving appropriate care.
Some military equipment was also damaged during the exchange of fire.
Despite the attack, troops remain firmly in control of the base and continue to dominate the surrounding area. Exploitation and clearance operations are ongoing to consolidate gains and prevent further threats.
Operation HADIN KAI noted that the failed assault reflects the growing desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure and significant battlefield losses across the North-East.
The military further stated that additional troops and critical combat assets have been deployed across the theatre to strengthen security operations, protect communities and sustain offensive actions against insurgent elements.
The command paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and CJTF members, describing their sacrifice as a reflection of the highest standards of patriotism, courage and commitment to national service.
