The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office, has coordinated an emergency response to a fire outbreak at a gas plant located within a residential area of Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory.
The incident occurred at about 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, prompting NEMA to activate critical emergency response stakeholders, including the Federal Fire Service.
Emergency Response Ambulance Bay (ERAB) teams from Kubwa and AYA were deployed to support firefighting and other emergency operations, while the DSAR and DPRF teams provided strategic supervision at the scene.
The fire was brought under control and completely extinguished by about 7:45 a.m. Emergency responders subsequently dampened the affected area to minimise the risk of secondary explosions.
Preliminary assessments indicated that no lives were lost in the incident. However, a vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, while adjoining buildings reportedly sustained significant damage.
The emergency operation was concluded at about 8:45 a.m.
Following the operation, the DSAR, on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, commended all participating agencies and personnel for their prompt response and professionalism.
He also called on regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with safety standards in the siting and operation of gas plants.
He stressed that gas facilities should be appropriately located away from residential areas to minimise risks to lives and property and prevent similar incidents in the future.
