NANS urges students to uphold national unity

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged Nigerian students to uphold national unity and remain committed to the survival and progress of the country as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

NANS President, Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS, made the call in an Independence Day message, describing Nigerian students as key stakeholders in nation-building and custodians of the country’s future.

Afeez said Nigeria’s sovereignty and continued existence as a nation remained worthy of celebration, particularly given the country’s diverse ethnic, religious and linguistic composition.

He urged Nigerians to view the country’s diversity as a source of strength and continue to uphold the shared heritage that binds citizens together.

According to him, the 66th anniversary also provides an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey over the past six decades and honour the contributions and sacrifices of the nation’s heroes who fought for the country’s independence.

The NANS president called on Nigerian students to promote the ideals of unity, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, stressing that their role in shaping the country’s future could not be underestimated.

“Above every divide is a Nigeria that must survive,” Afeez said, urging students to remain committed to the ideals of one Nigeria.

He congratulated Nigerian students on the Independence Day anniversary and encouraged them to continue upholding the national flag and contributing to the unity and development of the country.

Afeez described himself as a “true Nigerian patriot” and wished Nigerian students a happy Independence Day.
