Troops rescue five women, recover rustled livestock in Sokoto

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued five abducted women in Katsina State and repelled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State, recovering a large herd of rustled livestock in separate intelligence-led operations.

The military disclosed that the operations were conducted with the support of timely intelligence and local communities as troops intensified efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement in the two states.

In Katsina State, troops acted on information about the movement of terrorists around the Madaci Forest area of Sabuwa Local Government Area.

The troops rapidly mobilised and intercepted the criminals through tactical manoeuvres, an action that reportedly disrupted the terrorists and enabled the safe rescue of five female victims.

The rescued victims included a mother and her infant, as well as three other minors and young adults from Danja and Funtua Local Government Areas.

The victims were subsequently handed over to the Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Musa, for reunification with their families.

The military said troops had continued aggressive patrols in the area to maintain dominance and prevent criminals from re-establishing freedom of movement.

Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion repelled a terrorist attack in Badiya Village, Shagari Local Government Area.

Acting on intelligence concerning suspicious movements in the area, the troops engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw into the surrounding terrain.

The fleeing attackers abandoned a large herd of rustled livestock, which the troops recovered.

The animals were subsequently returned to their rightful owners during a brief ceremony facilitated by the Chairman of Shagari Local Government Area and the local District Head.

The military said the recovery and return of the livestock were part of efforts to restore normalcy, strengthen community confidence and protect livelihoods in the affected communities.

The latest operations underscore the continued deployment of intelligence-driven military action and community support in efforts to counter terrorism, kidnapping and livestock rustling across the affected areas.
