NSCDC begins asset tagging to curb mismanagement

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced an asset coding and tagging exercise to strengthen accountability, improve property tracking and prevent the misuse of public resources.

The Commandant-General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, disclosed this on Tuesday during the official flag-off of the exercise at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

Audi urged personnel to demonstrate discipline, transparency and accountability in managing the Corps’ assets, stressing that all institutional property belonged to the public and must be protected against misuse, neglect and mismanagement.

He said the initiative was designed to improve transparency, enhance operational efficiency and ensure the effective utilisation of government assets across the organisation.

The Commandant-General also called on senior management officers to cooperate fully with the exercise, noting that accurate asset records and effective tracking mechanisms were essential to safeguarding public property.

Earlier, the Head of the Tracking Assets Unit, CSC Akinbinu Festus, described the initiative as a demonstration of the Corps’ renewed commitment to accountability and responsible asset management.

He said the exercise would strengthen the identification and tracking of institutional property, helping to improve records and promote more effective resource management.

In his vote of thanks, Assistant Commandant-General Faruk Musa Boyi commended Audi for initiating the exercise and emphasised the importance of maintaining accurate records of the Corps’ assets.

The event was attended by Deputy Commandants-General and other senior management officers, underscoring the Corps’ commitment to strengthening institutional accountability and ensuring the proper management of public resources.
