The governor made this declaration during the Edo State Security Summit held at the Government House in Benin City, with the theme, “Edo State Security Framework: Repositioning for the Future.”

During the summit, Governor Obaseki officially inaugurated the State’s Command and Control Center, named after former Inspector General of Police and Chairman of Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, as well as the Special Force Building in Benin City.

Governor Obaseki emphasized the need for collaboration with security agencies, the integration of technology, and the establishment of a public safety system based on citizen participation to address insecurity in the state. He highlighted the importance of a decentralized legislative framework to empower local agencies in conjunction with federal security agencies.

In assessing the impact of collaborative efforts, the governor revealed a significant reduction in crime incidents in the state by 47.7 percent from 2020 to the present. Governor Obaseki praised the collaboration with the National Communication Commission (NCC) for the success of the newly launched Command and Control Center. He also expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for allowing the state to refurbish the police training school in Benin City.

The governor underscored the crucial role of traditional leaders in the state’s security arrangements, recognizing their contribution to intelligence gathering and local cooperation. He stressed that empowering local communities to have authority in decision-making would enhance security efforts.
