In a recent incident capturing widespread attention on social media, Police Special Constabularies were arrested after a viral video surfaced, revealing their inappropriate demand for money from a Dutch woman rider.
In official statement, Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Muyiwa Adejobi said the incident occurred in the Ojongbodu area along the Iseyin/Ogbomosho Road in Oyo State.
He said the law enforcement officers, whose actions were deemed unprofessional, unacceptable, and punishable, have been taken into custody by the police authorities. Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, wasted no time in initiating a disciplinary procedure to address the misconduct promptly.
Expressing strong disapproval, the police authority condemned the actions of the Constabularies and directed that both the implicated officers and their supervising Divisional Police Officer face appropriate sanctions. Such behavior is deemed incompatible with the principles of law enforcement and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Commissioner Hamzat, in response to the incident, emphasized the commitment of the police force to maintaining a high standard of professionalism. He underscored the need to address such lapses through decisive disciplinary actions, ensuring the public’s trust and confidence in law enforcement.
In alignment with this commitment, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has initiated a comprehensive reorientation program for officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. The aim is to address issues of this nature and reposition the force to better serve the community.
Adejobi, reiterated the force’s dedication to upholding the values of integrity and professionalism. The apprehension of the Special Constabularies involved in the viral video serves as a clear indication that misconduct will be met with appropriate consequences, fostering a culture of accountability within the law enforcement community.
