Tinubu suspends National Social Investment Programme amidst allegations of mismanagement

In a decisive move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has taken the step to suspend all operations carried out by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) in light of the ongoing investigations into purported malfeasance in the management of the agency and its various programmes.

According to official statement released by Director of Information office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation Segun Imohiosen, the suspension encompasses all four programmes administered by NSIPA, namely the N-Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and Home-Grown School Feeding Programme. The suspension will be in effect for an initial period of six weeks, pending further developments in the investigation.

President Tinubu has expressed significant concerns regarding operational lapses and improprieties related to payments made to the beneficiaries of these programmes. In response to these concerns, he has established a ministerial panel tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the agency’s operations. The panel’s objective is to identify any shortcomings and propose necessary reforms for the NSIPA.

Throughout the duration of this suspension, all NSIPA-related activities, including but not limited to distributions, events, payments, collaborations, and registrations, will be temporarily halted. This comprehensive freeze underscores the gravity of the situation and the commitment to a thorough examination of the agency’s operations.

Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has affirmed the President’s dedication to a prompt and impartial process. The goal is to ensure that, moving forward, social intervention programmes operate precisely as intended, delivering tangible benefits to the most vulnerable segments of the Nigerian population. The President seeks to reassure stakeholders and the entire nation that his administration remains unwavering in its commitment to transparency and accountability in the implementation of social intervention initiatives.
