Internal Security: Police apprehend suspected kidnappers, disable bandits, and seize weapons

In a significant stride towards enhancing internal security in Nigeria, on February 13, 2024, at approximately 2030hrs, the Sokoto State Police Command executed a successful operation, apprehending a group of five individuals suspected to be part of a kidnapping syndicate along the Bodinga-Tambunwal Highway.

In an official statement Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said acting on actionable intelligence, law enforcement officials intercepted the suspects, who were in possession of three AK-47 rifles, along with 90 rounds of live ammunition and 3 AK-47 magazines.

He said those arrested individuals, identified as Abdullahi Ali, Aliyu Mohammed, Abdullahi Umar, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Anas, have all confessed to their involvement in criminal activities. They disclosed their intention to carry out a kidnapping operation in Tambuwal before their plans were thwarted by the vigilant efforts of the Nigeria Police Force.

Likewise, on February 14, 2024, at approximately 5:50 pm, suspected bandits were sighted near Gigane Village in Sokoto State. Promptly responding to the situation, operatives of the State Tactical Team engaged the bandits in a confrontation. During the ensuing exchange of fire, several of the bandits were incapacitated, and law enforcement authorities managed to recover a GPMG rifle along with six live ammunition rounds at the scene.

Law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to track down other fleeing members of the criminal gang and other nefarious elements operating within the state. The commitment remains steadfast to ensure that perpetrators of criminal activities face the full consequences of the law.
