Abia delegation donates N100m to Maiduguri flood victims

In response to the recent flood disaster that ravaged Maiduguri, Borno State, the Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, dispatched a delegation to the Borno State capital last week on a sympathy visit.

The delegation, led by senior government officials, met with Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, to convey Abia State’s solidarity and support during this difficult time.

During the visit, Governor Zulum was presented with a cheque worth N100 million on behalf of the Abia State government. This donation is aimed at supporting the relief efforts for the victims of the Maiduguri flood, which struck on September 10, 2024, causing widespread devastation. The flood displaced thousands of residents, destroyed homes, and tragically claimed many lives, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The gesture from the Abia State government adds to the growing wave of support that Borno State has received since the disaster. Governors from various states, alongside corporate entities, business leaders, individuals, international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), and local NGOs, have all expressed their sympathy and offered assistance to the people of Borno in the aftermath of the flood.

Governor Zulum, while expressing his gratitude, highlighted the importance of such acts of solidarity in helping the affected communities recover from the tragic event. The N100 million donation from Abia State will go a long way in easing the burden on those displaced by the flood, as Borno State continues to grapple with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
