Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has stepped in regarding the recent arraignment of individuals linked to the Endbad Governance protest.
Those detained face charges, including treason, following what authorities have termed a “violent” protest. The defendants are currently being held in detention facilities, with the court adjourning their cases until January.
AGF Fagbemi acknowledged that, while he cannot alter the court’s remand order, his office will review the case details. To this end, he directed the Nigeria Police to transfer the casefile to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) by Saturday, November 2, 2024. The AGF has instructed the DPPF to expedite review processes to potentially request an earlier court date for the defendants.
The AGF emphasized the need for a comprehensive review to make an informed decision on further proceedings.
