Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, on August 28, 2024 officially assumed office as the new Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a statement the Service Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications Peter Afunanya said the new DG was warmly welcomed by his predecessor, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi, who provided a detailed briefing on current issues.
Afunanya said the transition was marked by mutual respect and reflections on their past working relationship.
Addressing the DSS Management and Staff, the outgoing DG urged all personnel to support Mr. Ajayi in his new role.
In his remarks, Mr. Ajayi emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and professionalism among staff. He committed to collaborating with relevant stakeholders, demonstrating unwavering dedication to overcoming challenges in Nigeria’s economic, political, and security sectors, with the goal of fostering peace and stability.
A key moment of the ceremony was the symbolic handover of the Service flag and other insignias of office by the former DG to Mr. Ajayi. Following the handover, Mr. Ajayi toured the National Headquarters, visiting various sections and encouraging staff to maintain vigilance, dedication, and loyalty to the Service and the nation.
Notably, the new DGSS pledged to steer the Service towards greater covert operations and a studied silence on sensitive matters.
