Amnesty International, a leading human rights organization, has strongly denounced the recent surge in violence that claimed the lives of more than 70 individuals during fresh attacks by unidentified gunmen on communities in Bokkos and parts of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State. The assailants, striking in the night of Saturday, also left scores of people injured and forced numerous residents to flee their homes.
The attacks have prompted widespread concern as efforts intensify to locate dozens of individuals reported missing since the onslaught. Despite these recurring acts of violence, the Nigerian authorities have faced criticism for their apparent inability to quell the deadly assaults on rural communities in Plateau State.
This latest incident highlights a disconcerting trend where the failure of the authorities to safeguard the lives and well-being of Nigeria’s citizens is becoming increasingly commonplace.
