Amnesty International says Boko Haram escalates deadly attacks along Adamawa-Borno border

Amnesty International has raised concerns over the escalation of deadly attacks by Boko Haram along the Adamawa-Borno border, highlighting a recent assault that claimed 10 lives.

According to the organization, Boko Haram fighters ambushed hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) late on Saturday, April 26, at Kopre village in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The attack left 10 people dead and several others injured.

Amnesty International described Boko Haram’s actions as “consistently vicious, unlawful, and a contemptible disregard for human life,” calling on Nigerian authorities to strengthen civilian protection measures and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Drawing from its research since 2009, Amnesty stated that Boko Haram has repeatedly committed war crimes and crimes against humanity with impunity. The group has been responsible for the brutal killing and mistreatment of civilians, abduction of women and girls, and subjecting victims to sexual slavery.

Beyond direct violence, Boko Haram’s activities have severely disrupted essential public services — including health care, education, and administrative support — across parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States.

Amnesty International urged the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities and ensure accountability for atrocities committed by the insurgent group.
