Army deploys reinforcements to Plateau to tackle rising tension

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of additional troops to Plateau State in a bid to contain the worsening security situation in parts of the state.

According to Media Information Officer Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the reinforcement, under the ongoing Operation ENDURING PEACE, is aimed at strengthening existing military operations, de-escalating tensions and restoring law and order in affected communities.

Addressing troops at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force in Jos, the army chief charged personnel to maintain professionalism, discipline and firmness in confronting criminal elements threatening the peace and security of residents.

He assured the troops that adequate logistics and combat support have been put in place to facilitate the successful execution of their mission.

The newly deployed personnel, numbering over 850, were drawn from military formations in Abuja and Kaduna. They have been tasked with safeguarding lives and property, as well as ensuring the safety and security of communities across Plateau State.

Military authorities expressed confidence that the reinforcements will bolster ongoing efforts to stabilise the security situation and protect law-abiding citizens.
