US official urges Nigeria to boost security for Christians ahead of easter

A senior United States official has called on the Nigerian government to strengthen security measures for Christians ahead of the Easter period, citing concerns over targeted attacks during religious celebrations.

Mark Walker, Principal Advisor, acknowledged efforts already made by Nigerian authorities to improve security but stressed that more decisive action is required.

“We call on the Nigerian government to significantly ramp up security for Christians ahead of and during Easter,” Walker said, noting that incidents of violence, particularly those targeting Christians during religious holidays, remain unacceptable.

He urged Nigerian leadership to act swiftly and engage proactively to prevent further attacks, emphasising the urgency of enhanced protection measures during the festive period.

The statement comes amid heightened concerns over security challenges in parts of Nigeria, particularly during major religious observances.
