The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, less than 24 hours after she was abducted from her residence in the Federal Capital Territory.
The rescue followed a coordinated operation by troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison, who immediately launched a pursuit operation after the abduction on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and made contact with the kidnappers. Confronted by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, the abductors abandoned their victim and fled into nearby bushes.
Mrs Adonkie was subsequently rescued at Angwan Sabo Village, while troops intensified clearance and tracking operations along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis to prevent the suspects from escaping.
In a follow-up operation on Wednesday, September 2, troops intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
The operation also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The Army said troops have continued clearance and tracking operations across the area in an effort to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The Nigerian Army commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, stressing that timely information remains critical to ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
The Army further reaffirmed its commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to sustained intelligence-driven and joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and strengthening security across the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
