The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has reiterated the Corps’ unwavering commitment to its core mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the country.
He made this declaration during a strategic assembly of the Corps’ Principal Management Staff Officers, State Commandants, College Provosts, and Heads of Tactical Units.
In his keynote address, Dr. Audi emphasized that the Corps’ relevance hinges on its dedication to executing its statutory responsibilities and safeguarding the civil populace. He underscored the need for continuous reassessment and enhancement of field operations, stressing that the NSCDC has benefited significantly from federal government support and must reciprocate through effective service delivery. “At this first quarterly meeting, we must critically evaluate our performance, identify gaps, and implement new strategies for improved results,” he stated. “I urge you all to intensify efforts and remain focused on our statutory responsibilities. The Federal Government has dedicated substantial resources to ensure our optimal performance, and we must respond with unwavering commitment and result-oriented actions.” “The relentless pursuit of the NSCDC’s core mandate must remain our priority. We must fully dedicate ourselves to securing critical national infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.”
Dr. Audi further charged NSCDC officers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to embrace the significant responsibility of safeguarding the nation amid evolving security challenges. He identified asymmetric threats such as crude oil theft, vandalism, farmer-herder clashes, kidnapping, insurgency, and terrorism as key concerns requiring urgent and strategic responses.
He also revealed intelligence reports linking illegal mining activities to rising insecurity, noting that some illegal miners collaborate with criminal elements to facilitate illicit activities. “Intelligence indicates that many illegal miners collude with bandits, using our resources while evading security measures. These nefarious activities pose a serious threat to national security and economic stability.”
Dr. Audi reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to combating economic sabotage, assuring both the government and the public that all necessary measures will be taken to enhance national security and safeguard lives and property.
