Barau commends security agencies over Lakwaya kidnap rescue

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended security operatives for the swift rescue of three out of five persons abducted by bandits in Zurin Mahauta village, Lakwaya town, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The victims were kidnapped on Sunday night when suspected bandits from neighbouring states reportedly stormed the community and whisked away five residents.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau condemned the attack and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the release of the remaining two abducted persons.

Describing the incident as unacceptable, the lawmaker praised the prompt response of security personnel, which led to the rescue of three victims. He called on the operatives to sustain the momentum until all those abducted are safely returned.

An online report by a National Newspaper on Monday quoted Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, as confirming that three of the kidnapped persons had been rescued.

Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, said the recurring incursions by bandits into communities in Kano State must be brought to an end. He noted that the area had enjoyed weeks of relative peace prior to the latest attack.

He appealed to security agencies to reinforce security around vulnerable communities and remain vigilant in countering criminal activities, stressing that the safety of lives and property remains paramount.

The Deputy Senate President also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics to enhance their operational effectiveness.
