Borno Flood: House of Representatives donates ₦100m to victims during Maiduguri visit

A delegation from the House of Representatives, led by former House Leader Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, visited Maiduguri to express solidarity with the government and people of Borno State following the devastating floods that recently hit several communities.

The lawmakers, representing all six geopolitical zones, included former Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, and other prominent members such as Rep. Victor Nwokolo, Rep. Fred Agbedi, Rep. Sada Soli, Rep. Ademorin Kuye, Rep. Iduma Igariwey Enwo, Rep. Aminu Sani Jaji, Rep. Bashir Zubairu Usman, and Rep. Abdulkadir Rahis.

During the visit, the delegation announced a ₦100 million donation from the House of Representatives to assist in relief efforts and support victims of the floods. Rt. Hon. Doguwa emphasized the House’s commitment to helping Borno recover, noting that the contribution represented a collective effort from all members across the nation.

“We are here on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, and the entire House to offer our heartfelt condolences. This donation is a testament to our unity in supporting the people of Borno in these trying times,” said Doguwa. He also pledged that the National Assembly would work towards long-term solutions for flood prevention nationwide.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed gratitude for the swift intervention by the House, stating that the support would significantly aid recovery efforts. The delegation also visited the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, to reiterate their ongoing support for the state.

The visit highlighted the House of Representatives’ dedication to providing relief and working towards rebuilding communities affected by natural disasters.
